Tateyama in Minami-Boso, where Shinra is located, is known as the setting for the Nanso Satomi Hakkenden (Eight Dog Chronicles) written by Kyokutei Bakin. There are sites that are featured in the book in various parts of the city. One of them is the Hakkenden Museum, the former site of Tateyama Castle, which exhibits books and scroll paintings related to the book.
